Tinnitus is most commonly referred to as ‘ringing or buzzing in the ears’ and can be defined as the conscious experience of noise with no apparent external source. There are a few recommended treatments to help relief tinnitus.
These are divided to:
Hearing aids – People suffering from tinnitus with a hearing impairment may find that wearing a hearing aid can help mask their tinnitus by way of additional amplification.
White noise sound therapy - Discreet white noise generators worn in or on the ear itself will help mask the tinnitus. It look just like hearing aids, though their function is to generate white noise, rather than to enhance sound.
Sound generators - Sound generator devices producing sounds such as rain or sea surf or even white noise can offer psychological distraction and act as an aid to relaxation.
Sound speakers - Pillow speakers or sound pillows connected to sound generators or an existing sound system like an MP3 player can reduce the perception or awareness of tinnitus.
Tinnitus can vary in the way it sounds, its severity, as well as its annoyance. It is important for one’s wellbeing to seek professional help to relief tinnitus. You may also look for support groups in your area as tinnitus is more common than you think.
