There are secrets to better health. And when you know that your body is in its most tip-top shape, you glow. While a good diet and some regular exercise make the best weapon, there are also little things you can do to improve your health.
First of all, break out the mints. Researchers from Europe recently discovered that people who eat the most garlic and onions have the lowest incidence of several types of cancer. For example, having more than seven servings of onion weekly cuts the risk of colon cancer by more than 50 percent. Eating garlic, on the other hand, lowers the risk by about 25 percent or slightly higher. No one is really sure exactly what substances are responsible for the good effects but certain lab tests suggest that the sulfur compounds that give the vegetables their bite may also be cancer fighters. If you don’t enjoy it, caramelizing onions make it sweeter. Just don’t forget to load up on the mints for a minty-fresh breath.
Lots of studies have also shown the health benefits of tea. They have shown how it lowers the risks of heart disease, stroke, and possibly, even certain types of cancers. But does it deliver the most touted benefit: too soothe and calm? Black tea drinkers actually have lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those who’ve been drinking something else. High levels of cortisol can weaken your immune system and they’ve also been linked with cravings for foods that are high in sugar and fat. So, if a bad day has you yearning for a piece of that pie, try sipping tea instead.
Did you also know that a full handbag can weigh as much as 10 pounds? So, it comes as no surprise that carrying one over your shoulder actually causes neck and shoulder problems. Try to keep your bag as light as possible and alternate it between shoulders regularly. Better still, opt for a smaller bag that you can swap back and forth from hand to hand.
Moreover, when it comes to apple juice, cloudy outshines clear. The darker version, which is called cider, packs up to four times the level of antioxidants as the filtered variety. But if you really want to keep the doctor away, eat the whole apple with the skin. It’s a lot more nutritious than either form of beverage.
Also, red meat isn’t your friend. You already know that greasy burgers aren’t exactly ranked high on the good nutrition list. What you may not know, however, is the fact that too much red meat may pose a health risk. Women who ate more than the required servings of red meat weekly were also twice as likely to develop estrogen-dependent breast cancer. Eat fewer servings. You don’t really have to swear off red meal altogether, especially if you love them. Just make sure to eat it occasionally and always keep portions small. These little-known secrets are what could save your life. Be aware of what you do and take care of your body while you still can so that you can grow old gracefully.
