The effects of exercise on people with CFS

As we know chronic fatigue syndrome refers to the disorder in which a person suffers from chronic levels of exhaustion, for a long period of time.

Other symptoms associated with CFS are headaches, muscle pains, joint pains and sore throats. Along with other flu type manifestations. It is unknown what the precise cause of chronic
fatigue syndrome is, and it could take many more years before the cause is discovered and a person will be able to fully recover from it.

It is not uncommon for chronic fatigue suffers to experience repeat incidents of CFS through the course of their life. A cure is unlikely until the precise cause of CFS is discovered. There are ways to relieve CFS which do not include medications, and these natural remedies are at the forefront of the fight against CFS.

One such natural therapy for combating chronic fatigue is exercise. You should note that a professional opinion on its validity as a treatment remains segregated; doctors simply can't agree as to the effects exercise has upon the symptoms of CFS.

On the one hand, one group believes light exercise will help combat chronic fatigue syndrome, whilst the other group believes
it will simply worsen the symptoms.

Sometimes exercise can have negative effects for a person suffering from CFS, as physical activities could possibly increase symptoms like fatigue, muscle pain and joint pain. It is a well
known fact that exercise is vital for keeping healthy and well, however it could provoke the symptoms of CFS.

Luckily, there has been a recent study by the 'British Medical Journal' that states with the right education on CFS, plus an administered exercise routine, a patient may successfully
counter the symptoms of chronic fatigue.

Sadly, the fact is that sufferers of CFS will find it hard to just get through their day to day tasks without the added strain of other physical activities like jogging or aerobics.

When suffering from CFS, it is not uncommon for a person to be unable to even get out of bed. This will pass with time, and it may be possible for them then to participate in an exercise program.

There is always the worry, however, that once the sufferer begins to exercise they may bring on another bout of CFS This happens because when you work out lactic acid is built up in your muscles. Lactic acid leads to fatigue.

Some research states that exercise will have negative effects on a CFS sufferer due to the fact there will be an excess of lactic acid
in their muscles. This is worsened by the fact that a chronic fatigue sufferer will produce up to twice as much lactic acid as a normal person. It is believed that this means there is a link
between CFS and a problem with energy metabolism within the body.

Another link may be one between CFS and weak levels of potassium electrolytes. With a lack of potassium in the body, Chronic fatigue will develop. The majority of potassium is found in
muscle tissue along with the brain, internal organs, and the blood.

Some studies have shown that CFS sufferers have less potassium in their systems than those who do not suffer from chronic fatigue of the same age and weight. However it is also known that a lazy lifestyle can add to the different health problems
chronic fatigue sufferers may encounter. Such as a loss in bone mass, disintegration of muscle and an increased likelihood of obesity and cardiovascular problems.

CFS sufferers should have a careful approach to exercise.
They should not add to their routine a great deal and keep the workouts low intensity, and the time spent exercising should be kept short in order to avoid any negative effects on their CFS.
