Home Remedies that Heal

Plants and spices, minerals and fruits. Their powerful healing properties have been used by many for ages.

There are ingredients available in the world today that can be used to treat common ailments and injuries.

When you age, you’ll see that you’ll need to have these around to keep your body healthy. There’s no longer a need for expensive prescriptions because you’ll find many of them in your cupboards.

Ginger, for one, is one of the most studied kitchen cures and is used medicinally for centuries now. The chemicals that give ginger its zesty and fresh taste appear to reduce intestinal contractions, neutralize acids, and inhibit vomiting.

To combat dizziness, take a pinch of the powdered form. You can also take this at the first symptoms of migraine because it is also able to block chemicals that inflame the blood vessels found in our brains.

Doctors are aware of the benefits of ginger. In fact, they often advise patients to take it every other day because it is known to reap the benefits of aspiring without being too harsh on your tummy.

Another great thing to have around is petroleum jelly. This can be used for just about everything.

This serves as a cold-weather moisturizer because it is weightier and can trap more moisture than ordinary lotions. If you notice your hands and feet getting dry, slab on an extra thick coating and cover your limbs with gloves and socks.

It also makes an excellent protective barrier against windburn. Dab a little of it inside your nostrils to trap pollen spores before they make it further into your airways and cause allergic reactions.

Scientists have also known for a long time that mustard’s pungent heat thins mucus and makes it easier to breathe when you have a cold. When you eat a dollop of mustard on your food, you will see that it is much easier to expel mucus out of your body.

Soaking your feet in hot water with a bit of mustard powder can unblock a heat cold, help reduce fever, and soothe headache. Drawing blood to the feet helps to disperse the congestion, increase the circulation, and ease pressure of the vessels in your head.

As for lemon, you get more of a sharp tang when you suck a wedge. A single lemon contains 40 mg of vitamin C, the full recommended daily intake. The body uses this vitamin to boost the activity of immune cells and manufacture collagen, the tissue-building substance that assists in wound healing.

Lemons are loaded with citric acid. This chemical reduces calcium excretion and helps prevent the formation of these painful little stones.

The Epsom salts were a common laxative a few decades back. If applied in a paste, this can draw toxins from insect stings and bring skin splinters to the surface.

This helps shrink swollen tissue and draws out lactic acid. It reduces sprains and bruises if you just add it to your bath.

There are so many more known cures, and all you need to do is be inventive so you no longer have to pay for over-the-counter medicines.

More Kitchen Remedies

We all know that nature has provided us with great medicines. When it comes to your health, there are ways to care for yourself without over-the-counter drugs.

As you get older, you need to stock up on these items. You’ll experience health issues as you age if you don’t think about the needs of your body.

For centuries, people from all over have been opting for these items. Below are just a few more kitchen products you can keep around your house:

1. Yogurt:

There are more bacteria than human cells found in your body. The vast majority of intestinal organisms are beneficial. Some of them, however, can cause problems. The active cultures in live yogurt called probiotics protect your body from a variety of harmful bacteria.

You can drop your rate of infections by taking yogurt regularly. In fact, it is higher in calcium than milk. Even those who are lactose intolerant can digest this food because the organisms found in it digest the lactose even before you ingest it. And to ensure you get as many live organisms as possible, buy and eat products way before their expiry date.

2. Vinegar:

Its tart taste can be likened to an unripe apple. The flavor comes from its high concentration of acetic acid. This kind of acid is formed when bacteria digest fermented liquids.

It’s a useful weapon against bacteria and a suitable disinfectant if you have an infection anywhere in your body. A vinegar rinse banishes the smell of smoke from clothes, freshens fabric when added to the final rinsing water.

It also expels odor from sweaty armpits and feet. It also soothes jellyfish stings and mosquito bites. Others also make a cough syrup by adding equal amounts of honey and cider vinegar. Apples, fruits that are also high in malic acid, are able to fight off body aches and pains.

3. Chamomile:

If you feel really wound up, you can drink a cup of chamomile tea or relax in a warm bath doctored with several cups of it.

The chemical found in this plant calms the central nervous system. But more than just helping you relax, it helps ease stomach spasms or menstrual cramps.

A wash of chamomile kills some of the bacteria and fungi that cause eye or skin infection. The tea version soothes inflamed gums and heals gum disease.

4. Aloe Vera:

The gel you get when you cut a leaf from this spiky plant is rich in anti-inflammatory compounds. It is also a great topical painkiller. You can buy products that contain Aloe Vera, but there is no substitute for the real thing.

The plant is easy to care for because it thrives on neglect. To soothe sunburn, cuts, and burns, wash the area with soap and water then cut a chunk off a leaf and squeeze out the gel that you’ll apply.

5. Bicarbonate Soda:

It is renowned as a household cleanser and it also provides the raising agents in cakes. For relief from heartburn, mix a teaspoon of it with a few drops of lemon juice in a glass of water.

You can also neutralize the bacteria in your tooth’s enamel by rinsing with a bicarbonate solution several times a day. Added to a footbath, it attacks the bacterial acids that cause foot odor.

For a perfect after-dinner drink, just add this to your water to remove the acidic environment found in your bladder.
