While it is very normal and common to lose hair, suffering from hair loss is an entirely different matter. Most healthy people lose about fifty to one hundred strands of hair every day, just from brushing and from a natural hair shedding pattern. In healthy people, the same amount of hair will grow back on a daily basis.
Millions of people, on the other hand, will notice patches of missing hair, bald spots and thinning hair line, that does not get replenished with new hair growth.
Hair loss may be due to trauma or other environmental causes. Many people are genetically predisposed to having bald spots and thinning hair line. This applies to both men and women.
Fortunately, there are many solutions to remedy hair loss for both genetic and environmental causes.
Let us take a look at some causes for hair loss. It is common knowledge that stress will lead to many ills including hair loss. What does this really mean?
Women, for example, may notice losing a lot of hair just after giving birth. This is due to a drop in the women’s estrogen level after childbirth. This will easily remedy itself as the hair loss is temporary and the women should recover their normal hair fullness within one year.
A common stress related hair loss in men and women is actually both genetic and environmental. Men produce a lot of testosterone; sometimes, some of these hormones can have negative effects.
DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, acts on the skin. By blocking pores and hair follicles on the skin, DHT can interfere with hair regrowth.
There are many vitamins and supplements to help combat the negative effects of DHT. Supplements including saw palmetto has shown to help reduce the DHT blockage of hair follicles, help promote hair regrowth, and even help prevent prostate cancer!
Over the counter vitamin supplements are not FDA regulated and they may not have been lab tested. Be sure to consult a doctor before taking any supplements.
Another obvious environmental factor that can lead to hair loss is hair styling and managing. Take a look at the ingredients in your shampoo, conditioner, and all other hair products.
It is a general rule of thumb to stay away from too much chemicals, alcohol and sulfates as they can weaken the hair and irritate the scalp.
Fortunately, there are many affordable over the counter hair products that work. Research the products, makes sure you’re not allergic to any ingredients. Trial and error will lead to finding the right product for you.
If over the counter hair care products and vitamin supplements do not work for you, it may be worth spending some money for professional help.
There are many hair regrowth clinics; ones you’ve seen advertised on television for years would be more trust worthy. Again, be sure to research these companies.
You may also consider consulting a dermatologist. If your hair loss is due to trauma to the skin, such as burning, a dermatologist may recommend medicated topical creams or grafting and surgery to replace the hair loss.
Hair loss is common. Solutions are also becoming more common. No matter what your situations is, remember to do research before you consume any hair remedies.
It is always a good idea to consult a doctor for a safe and effective solution for hair loss.
