Excessive sweating can be a nuisance of a disorder to put up with. You should not have to plan what you wear around how much you will be sweating. The good news is you can cure excessive sweating and improve your everyday lifestyle. Here are five options to consider when looking to put an end to the disorder.
1. Over-the-counter antiperspirants
The first place to look is in your grocery store for over-the-counter antiperspirants. There are a number of home remedies you can give a try to begin with to test the severity of your problem. These are easily accessible and fairly cheap. If you can, look for antiperspirants that contain aluminum chloride as this has been known to have greater results.
2. Prescription antiperspirants
If you are having no luck whatsoever with over-the-counter antiperspirants, you may need to get a stronger product from a doctor. Aluminum chloride hexahydrate is a prescription-strength version that should be applied before going to bed for 7-10 nights in a row. How it works is the aluminum salts will collect in the sweat ducts thus blocking them. While this is highly effective for underarm sweating, it is not the best option for palm and sole sweating.
3. Iontophoresis
This is a device that will pass direct electricity through your skin using tap water. The current is applied to your skin for 10-20 minutes each session and two to three sessions per week is recommended. While it may sound painful, there is actually little pain involved.
4. Botox
Botox has become well-known over the years and is frequently associated with older celebrities attempting to eliminate wrinkles. It is essentially a muscle poison that has been used for muscle spasms and headaches as well. Of late it has been used to cure excessive sweating on underarms. With 50 units of Botox being injected into 20 spots of each armpit, a person will find around six months of sweat relief.
5. Surgery
The most extreme option to cure excessive sweating is surgery. While this is not recommended, some just cannot put up with constant sweating on a daily basis. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is the surgery that is performed which will interrupt the sympathetic nerves that cause sweating. The surgery destroys part of the nerve supply to the sweat glands in your skin by inserting a special endoscopic instrument into the chest between the two ribs below your armpit. While this is extremely effective, it can also be risky with excessive sweating in other parts of the body and lung and nerve problems being at risk.
